What is Microneedling?
Microneedling or collagen induction therapy is a cosmetic procedure in which small, carefully made micro-injuries in the skin surface are generated with needles in a device. These micro-injuries invoke in vivo skin's healing cascade leading to collagen and elastin deposition, both of which are crucial building blocks to tight and healthy skin. The treatment is successful in the treatment of a variety of different skin lesions, such as acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and even skin tone.
How Microneedling Works?
A pen-like device with variable needles generates micro channels in the skin. By activating the channels the body's wound-healing cascade--a three-phase process--is elicited.
- Inflammation - Skin takes an elevated blood vessel (hence micro-injury) to increase the blood flow to the target area. This initiates the healing process.
- Proliferation - New tissue forms as fibroblasts produce collagen and elastin.
- Remodeling - Newly synthesized collagen is cross-linked in the skin, therefore enhancing its structure, texture and firmness.
Moreover, the Micro channels facilitate the uptake of topical formulations, i.e., serums, growth factors, etc., thereby boosting them in effect.
Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling provides a wide range of advantages and is a useful treatment for many skin disorders: -
- Improved Skin Texture and Tone - Microneedling has the effect of diminishing the signs of an uneven skin complexion, rough texture and also Hyperpigmentation, resulting in smoother, radiant skin.
- Reduction of Acne Scars and Stretch Marks - The treatment is effective in significantly reducing acne scar and stretch mark appearance via stimulating skin regeneration.
- Diminished Fine Lines and Wrinkles- Increasing collagen production through Microneedling leads to narrowing fine lines and wrinkles, and appears to promote a more youthful skin surface.
- Pore-Size Reduction - Treatment contracts the skin and reduces dilated pore size.
- Minimized Sun Damage - Microneedling stimulates the repair of sunburned skin in effect by inducing cellular turnover and collagenization (colonization).
- Enhanced Absorption of Skincare Products - Through the micro-channels created during the process of the application, serums as well as other cosmetic preparations reach down to their maximum dose.
