What is Botox?
Botox is the trademark of type A botulinum toxin, a purified protein that comes from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When injected in small, controlled doses, Botox temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles—those that form due to repetitive facial expressions like smiling, frowning, or squinting.

How Does Botox Work?
Botox action is mediated by blocking the (neuronal) signals that cause muscle contraction and shortening. When the muscles are at rest, the covering skin becomes smooth, minimising Nasolabial and marionette folds. The effects of Botox generally last for 3-6 months, after which the exercised muscles return to normal activity over time. This temporary nature allows for ongoing adjustments and ensures that the results remain natural and adaptable to your changing facial expressions over time.
